We’re delighted to reveal the shortlist for the fifth year of the Publisher Podcast Awards. From hundreds of entries, this shortlist of 140 represents the very best in publisher podcasts and we are excited to be promoting and celebrating such fantastic shows.
The winning podcasts will be decided by a line-up of nearly 50 judges from around the world, many of whom have been judging the Awards since their inception in 2020. The winners will be revealed in an in-person celebration at Salsa! Temple in London on 12th June 2024.
Following the success of our first Publisher Podcast Summit, we’re delighted to be bringing it back during the day before the Awards, alongside the first ever Publisher Newsletter Summit. The Publisher Podcast Awards will be held in the early evening following the Summits.
A new study from The Associated Press reveals that generative AI is already reshaping newsroom roles and workflows. Nearly 70% of newsroom staffers surveyed at legacy media, public broadcasters and magazines say they’re using the technology for crafting social media posts, newsletters and headlines. AI is also being used for translation and transcribing interviews and to create story drafts. Interestingly, 56% said using generative AI to create entire pieces of content should be banned. What are the other 44% smoking?
Good news at The Sun… the title halved its losses last year thanks to a drop in provisions made against phone-hacking allegations. Hooray! Unable to benefit from a reduction in costs associated with alleged wrongdoing, News UK stablemate The Times grew revenue but saw a 17% drop in profits due to actual publishing expenses being higher. Rising losses at TalkTV have been confirmed, but we knew about them thanks to the channel’s ‘pivot to digital’.
Another day another excuse to use a print reboot to talk about the ‘magazine comeback.’ Seriously, I get it, most of you haven’t bought a print magazine in years, but take it from those of us that have… it was only SOME magazines that stopped printing. Breathy talk of ‘miraculous’ returns to the newsstand ignore the work so many magazine pros do day in, day out to survive and thrive. Just a warning, I will not be held responsible for my actions the first ‘pivot to print’ headline I see.
