Where will the leaders and readers of the future come from?

Magazine publishing might not be for the fainthearted, and the idea of selling it as a career demands a headshift. But we need to accentuate the positives if we’re going to attract young people that can lead our magazines into the future

 

I’m always glad to hear the ‘plop’ of the Grub Street Journal fall through my letterbox. They may only be on their fourth issue, but Joanna Cummings and our own Peter Houston always manage to pull together a brilliant, beautiful magazine which never fails to make me smile.

If you haven’t yet bought a copy of Grub Street, this piece is just a sample of some of the work they produce. Sadly it doesn’t look as pretty on our site as in the printed magazine, but you get the idea. If you want the full experience, issue #4 is on sale now.

The point here is that unless we all decide that there’s no point in publishing magazines – and that’s never happening – we need to enlist a new generation of magazine people. So what is the state of magazine teaching?
